In May 2005, the members of Cream reunited to perform concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. A lot of time had passed since their last gig in 1968. In truth, they were only together for a relatively short period of time circa 66 - 68; at a time when the British Blues boom coincided with the Psychedelic movement. Cream were successful in bringing together both genres.
They were regarded as a supergroup - Messrs Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker had come from the Graham Bond Organisation - a prominent Rhythm and Blues outfit from the early 60's onwards; and guitarist Eric Clapton who had recently defected from the Yardbirds to maintain his Blues authenticity.
Theirs was a rocket that took off for the stars and ended with a bang. Then no more: a mere snapshot in the history of time. But what a time indeed.
Bassist Jack Bruce and Drummer Ginger baker famously never got on and were perpetually at each other's throats whilst Clapton tried to act as a referee to little effect. But the dynamic trio had a chemisty that resulted in masterful compositons based around extended improvisations that borrowed from the world of Jazz.
So...they came back together in 2005 and what a spectacular series of concerts at said venue. The concert is floating around Youtube should you be interested. It is highly enjoyable and shows the three of them, whilst in their relative senior years, delivering a very convincing performance.
Most enjoyable to watch!
